Situated in a mews which isn’t actually a mews, this was – believe it or not – rebuilt in the late 19th century, having existed since the mid-18th.
This is a Greene King house – what a surprise – with all the brand’s typical traits, in a pub which looks as though some elements are historic, with additions over the decades. For example, one fireplace looks original, another looks modern; a section of dark wood panelling appears to be of some age, the remainder looks like a later installation. There are several rooms and split levels, the low ceiling swathed with crimson Anaglypta with the dark lacquered floor giving a cosy feeling, diminished greatly by the multitude of TVs showing the football, which as usual, no one was watching. An obviously modern addition is the square section tubular steel gantry; lighting comes from chandelier-like things which look they date from the 1960s. Furniture is fairly conventional, with some studded banquettes; sauce bottles and menus litter tables. Customers were very young, one group vocally discussing its sex lives.
The typical ale line-up was on parade: GK IPA, Abbot, Old Golden Hen, with two pumps unused, so it was yet more Neck Oil, £3.30 a half.
This isn’t a great pub, which is pretty much the theme when it comes to Marylebone pubs, so a return is not on the cards.

Located on Portman Mews South ,this alone might indicate this as a mews pub but the immediate area doesn't .However this is more boozer than anything else ,so it just about qualifies and the interior is worth a squint, despite the GK signage.
It all low ceiling with an impessive long red leather bench seat running along a lot of the frontage with a nesting of rooms further along up a step or two.To the short side of the bar are a few high tables. There are two flatscreens in the upper rooms, both on mute but the prints, pictures and framed newspapers on the walls were all traditional and lending some character. There was a friendly welcome behind the bar and quite a gaggle of locals.
At each table was a corporate GK menu and the food service offering was at tourist prices with pies £12.79 .None of the locals were eating ,all were drinking. There are 5 handpumps offering on my trip GK Abbott,IPA,St Austell Tribute coming soon(arggghh) and TT Landlord (Musty NBSS 2,£4.80)
Decent interior, shame about the ale quality but at least it retains a boozer atmosphere this close to the tourist hot spot of Marble Arch.
