A lovely traditional small-town hotel that has somehow survived being refurbished into oblivion. As Blackthorn notes below, the entrance from the car-park is somewhat disconcertingly into the hotel reception. The main bar is to the left, then there are a couple of snugs further round, residents' lounges and a more formal restaurant. Beams, open fire, proper pub furniture, lots of old pictures make a pleasant place to linger. The GK beers (though it isn't a GK property) and Daily Mail clientele detract.

We pass through Winslow often but had never stopped before; the Bell is a nice enough spot to break a journey.

A traditional pub in an old building just opposite the small square in the centre of Winslow, this is in fact part of a hotel, but other than the fact that the first thing that you seen when you walk in is the hotel reception desk, it otherwise manages to retain a fairly typical pub feel to it.

The main bar has plenty of black beams on the ceiling and mustard coloured walls that also have a few beams. Flooring is mostly wood, with some carpet at the front. What looked like and old free standing beer engine with four hand pulls was in one corner and there was a large brick fire-place with a copper chimney hood. A small snug was off to one side and to the rear was a carpeted lounge with a number of leather armchairs and an exposed stone wall along one side, although the effect of this was slightly spoilt by having a plasma hanging on it as well as a very large advertisement for the hotel.

The menu offered a good selection of pub grub dishes such as Burger, Liver & Bacon, Lasagne, Scampi & Chips, etc., and these were all priced at £9. A small specials board offered a few more choices, again all at £9. My Chicken Curry was a decent home made dish, with generous pieces of tender chicken, and a couple of servings of Fish & Chips on the next table also seemed to be appreciated.

Beers on tap were a little uninspiring, with all three choices being from Greene King - IPA, Abbott Ale and Old Speckled Hen. There were a further three pumps on the bar that were unfortunately not in use. The solitary cider was Blackthorn which makes a pleasant change from the ubiquitous Strongbow around these parts.
