Interesting old locals pub with two separate bars, wooden panelling and 6 pulls in each bar serving Everards plus guests. The rear bar has bench seating, quarry tiles and some Giles annuals round the wall as décor it also houses some chatty locals. The rear gents has buckets as urinals properly wall mounted rather than just on the floor, but the atmosphere in there will clear your tubes.

The Black Horse is a long standing Everards pub on Braunstonegate near Leicester City Centre. It has not long ago had a refit and the result has the pub painted a very light sky blue that I think looks very bizarre but the interior has remained traditional and unspoilt as you the pub has three distinct area the main room, the back “snug” and the back room with dartboard. The main room is the largest with the lion’s share of the seating and the small bar at the back. This also serves the snug behind it from the other side that is reachable from an door on the right hand side that passes between the two. The decor is very traditional with bare boards and a lot of wood panelling that I like in a nice old boozer. The snug 9really more of a cosy back room also has a lovely fire in winter with nice cushioned bench seating. The bar usually ahs six hand pulled beers in operation but there are more pulls between the two sides that double up to display to each end making it sometimes appear that there are more beers available than there actually are . Four are reasonably priced regular Everards beers: Beacon £3.15, Tiger £3.25, Sunchaser £3.45 and Original £3.35 with two guest beers usually available but a bit on the steep side at £3.70 and these have on my past few visits been from the likes of Batemans, Lacons, And York brewery. It must be noted that Keg beers are noticeably on the expensive side here with Guinness a whopping £4.50! And most lagers topping the £4 mark. Beer quality is on the whole pretty decent but there has been a number of times that the Beacons has had a distinct hint of Vinegar probably because it is the smallest seller of the everards range, I’ve never had a problem with he big sellers like Tiger but I would have thought a little better of a proper ale pub like this, once is forgivable but its sadly been quite a few. Overall this a very pleasant real ale boozer ( A rarity around these parts believe me) but doesn’t really compete with similar offerings in Nottingham and Derby. I would definitely return again as it is one of the better options near town. Good but not great but closer to an 8 than a 7

I enjoyed my visit to this friendly pub and had a wander round to discover an amazing roof garden. There is a front bar area, and a smaller room also served by the bar further back, and a few more tables down the passage where the toilets are. There was a selection of Everards beers plus 2 guests from Fullers-Gales, and Beerd I believed brewed by Bath Ales. Those we had were excellent. It is a good friendly community pub.
