A posh makeover since the last review (indeed it was shut for a period of time) and although it classes itself as pub and restaurant, there's very little of the former in evidence. The front entrance is up a small flight of decking-style steps and I was greeted by a friendly be-aproned staff member. Enquiring whether I was able to solely make use of the bar facilities, my request was acquiesced and the, quarry tile-style floored and dark-wooded bar to the left became open to me. A small selection of Belgian beers were lined up on the far left of the bar in front of two stumps, one dispensing W&E Guardsman: the other, clip reversed. Six keg taps to the right part of the bar had a couple of locals - Uprising Treason IPA and W&E Republika. However, my eye was taken by three bottle ales at the right-hand end of the bar counter - three Bond Brews ales. I went for the Bengal Tiger (an IPA), and was charged £7 for the privilege (I later found out a pint of the Guardsman would have been a fiver). Lots of staff bustled around and about during my visit, despite the place hardly being inundated with diners, yet it's safe to say us solo drinkers aren't their demographic.

Large pub a little away from the main bit of Old Windsor and utterly deserted on a Friday night, in stark contrast to its next-door neighbour. There were no customers when we arrived and none when we left 15 minutes later. Three pumps, just a serviceable Doom Bar on. Up for sale and future looks bleak. The grim interior needs an overhaul and I noted that the gents were warmer than the pub itself. Friendly Geordie landlord who was temporarily looking after the place whilst it’s on the market, though he seemed more interested in watching Question of Sport than trying to drum up any business. Shame really.

I love this little pub, the food and beer is excellent the staff are really friendly too. The Oxford Blue is set in countryside with pretty views. The pub was first opened in 1829 by Battle of Waterloo veteran Tom Evans of The Royal Horse Guards (The Blues) or Oxford Blues hence the name of the pub. Tom would be very proud of his pub today (O:
