+++UPDATE+++ After a period of closure the Butchers has re-opened, seemingly minus the West Berks and Ramsbury. Shame. Still, blame Enterprise. Anyway the service was pleasant enough and the Doom Bar was fine. Dart board still available in the right hand bar.

A fair community local which has a couple of ales in decent condition – usually a West Berks brew and a Ramsbury. A friendly welcome comes from Buster Bloodvessel behind the bar (that’s Dean, whose ‘review’ is posted below!). The interior is quite worn and dated, it doesn’t look like it’s had a tarting up since 1974 - dig the pine-panelled walling and yucky illustrations on the toilet doors! Blame Enterprise. Not too bad for a pint, better than the Bird in Hand over the road, that’s for sure. Dean has now taken over the Prince of Wales in Tilehurst and the assumption is that Enterprise will flog this place off for housing in the not-too-distant future, which would be a shame – if I were local I’d use it.

Small back street boozer, with a friendly, welcome atmosphear, fine real ale & a selection of lagers & other beers.
