Real Ale Ray left this review about The Ship Inn

A traditional back street pub, found in a quiet and residential part of Deal. The building dates from the 1500s and a pub from the mid 1800s. In the winter months, this is predominantly a local's pub, where you will find a few characters sitting around the bar in the afternoon. The interior is traditional and looks as though you have stepped back in time to the Georgian period. The layout consists of the bar area on the left hand side, which was finished in mahogany and had a low counter.
The right hand room had a log burning stove and a piano. There was a further back room and a patio garden area. The décor throughout the pub was sage green painted woodwork, painted dark green ceilings and cream walls. Some rigging from a boat can be seen around the bar area to give a nautical theme.
Five handpumps, Dark Star Hophead, Gadds No 5, Gadds No 7, TT Landlord and Gadds Ship Inn. We enjoyed our visit here, and sat with a decent pint of beer near the log burning stove.

Danny O'Revey left this review about The Ship Inn

This is an excellent old inn just off the sea front, you can almost smell the neatical history (and I don't mean the place smells of fish!).

Feels old and historic despite being opened up as there are twists and turns between the areas. On my visit in the afternoon the light was filtering through, it was peaceful and one of those places you could just sit, drink beer and while away the hours. 5 local real ales, if they could just cool them slightly would finish off a througherly excellent pub.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Ship Inn

Although located in a quiet side street, the historic Ship Inn is quite an imposing three-storey structure. It has a cosy, traditional bar area with additional seating in side and back rooms. Basic patio beer garden down a flight of steps at the rear. Five handpumps, offering Deuchars IPA, Pride, Dark Star Hophead and two from Gadds - No 7 and a splendid pint of Seasider Amber Ale (£2.60). Overall, this seems like a proper pub which should repay the short walk northwards from the town centre. (NB - Review dates from August 2011.)
