Roger Button left this review about Duke Of Wellington

This wedge shaped pub stands in road fork just a short stroll from the Greyhound Stadium on the road to Bexleyheath and meets all the usual needs one would expect from a local’s pub.

The interior consists of a main bar with a large bay seating area and, tailing off behind the bar at what is scarily named “pervy corner”, is a wide corridor containing a train style pew seating arrangement, pool table (free on Thursdays) and 2 dart boards, 1 sneakily tucked away in a recess to one side. 4 TV’s are dotted about including a Big Screen with Sky Sports showing. I have never generally found the place particularly busy but there was a healthy Saturday lunchtime crowd for my recent visit albeit they were screening Man U v Chelsea. A small featureless beer patio brings up the rear that is of little interest to anyone other than smokers. Amongst the old pics (including a few of local pubs) is a 1953 aerial photo of Crayford shows the area before Sainsburys Homebase, the Retail Park and the Greyhound stadium were built and shows the “Wellie” looking virtually unaltered from its current state.

The 3 hand pumps are a bit hit and miss regarding availability but there is usually a half decent guest beer along the lines of Doom Bar or Harveys supplementing something more mundane like Greene King IPA or Bombardier. A third pump seems to be rarely, if ever, used. Prices are quite reasonable and quality is OK without being exceptional

The place may be a bit plain and fancy free but I have always felt confortable here and it generally seems quite hassle free. It is certainly an above average pub for the area with no thrills and worth dropping in as part of a Crayford crawl or quick pint or two before / after going to the dogs.
