No-nonsense neighbourhood pub standing prominently on a road junction. Perhaps a slightly run-down feel and could do with a bit of tlc, but pleasant enough. Cask Marque listed.

A lively, large local libatorium, a nineteenth Century town pub knocked into a single large U-shaped bar. TV screens, gaming machines and a dart board provide the main entertainment. The floors have been taken back to their original wooden state. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the locals welcoming. Two ales on, though it was strange that Doombar was priced at £2.80 along with Carlsberg and Strongbow, while the guest ale was a steeper £3+ . As I have more money than sense (according to some) I went for the guest – Thorney Thorney – and found it rather average. That aside, it was a good, friendly pub, worth a visit and I would definitely include in a crawl.

This is a large single U-shaped space around a central bar, although clearly the pub would once have had a multi-room format as evidenced by the other doors. Part boarded floor, part carpeted, décor is a mix of red walls and flock wallpaper dotted with a few old local scenes and mirrors. To the right hand end of the bar is an area with a pool table and usable dartboard plus a large TV; another TV is at the left hand end, both were showing muted Premier League reruns while the juke box played.
Live music is advertised as is a Thursday quiz night, free WiFi available.
Three handpumps, one unclipped, Doom Bar reversed, the other offered Hobgoblin (£1.60 a half). This was pretty lifeless and the glass sadly not as clean as it should be. Food is served with an American style diner menu featuring burgers, ribs, dogs etc. There was no one eating however, only two other people in during my lunchtime midweek visit which doesn't do much for atmosphere in a big pub like this. I imagine it gets livelier on a music night however.
The exterior is quite appealing with the old Brickwoods branding preserved, Brewer's Tudor and feature tower, the interior however, for me, didn't match up to expectations.
