A pub of two halves, the front is a delight, an 18th century bow windowed pub with main bars to right and left with a snug behind. Beyond that is a modern dining bar with an outside patio giving views of Hythe pier and Southampton Water. Three pulls in each bar with a common local line up of Doombar plus two from Marstons; Ringwood Best and Hobgoblin in this case. Quality was good if more than a touch cold. The old surroundings make it very pleasant to sit here with a pint, modern life intrudes with screens and machines but fairly discreetly. As ETA hints don't bother with the rear bar.

An 18th Century High Street inn which has retained its original facade and three bars and has been abominated at the back by the addition of a large, village hall-like bar. The three small original bars have wooden floors, bow windows and low beams, all of which gives it loads of character and a pleasant local feel which connects with the pub's history. The extension is rather less interesting, suffering from a lack of atmosphere, too much echo and a less comfortable air – much like a Scout hut. Sky Sports and WiFI are available. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, easy on the eye even, and they took no nonsense from the local drunks. The food was basic and cheap (in a good way). There were 3 ales on; I had several pints of fff’s Alton’s Best, which was a really, really good brew. The pub is handy for the marina and is central to the town. Don’t turn a blind eye to this one when visiting.

I don't often go in here.
It has live music every weekend therefore a very lively pub.
For some reason it seems to attract a lot of teeny boppers. Maybe it's because they can't be bothered to go clubbing in Southampton.
Not recommended for those who fancy a quiet drink.
