My visit found a boisterous and lively clientele, not intimidating to me but it could be to some, old blokes with facial tattoos are not a good advert. A vaguely L-shaped partly carpeted room, TVs showing the horses and football at the same time, there's also a dart board. To add to the noise a group were excitedly playing a quiz machine, I doubt they'd win much, brain cells seemed short of supply in here.
Surprisingly there were real ales, Pride plus a hand written clip for Draught Bass. I had the Bass, not seen it for a long time and to my memory tasted nothing like it did years ago.
I wouldn't bring my mum in here and I probably wouldn't take myself back either.

A Victorian corner pub at the end of the busy Commercial Road pedestrian area. There is a front garden with tables, chairs and umbrellas, fronted by an iron fence that makes you feel like you’re in a zoo, and which offers fine views of the nearby shops. There is a small, tidy dining area to the right as you go inside, and a larger square bar to the left. The latter has a pool table, a jukebox and a TV showing game shows which is also used to screen sports matches, I am told. There is also a dart board, and stacked in the corner what looks like a karaoke set. Food looked like good value for money, but the only ale on – Doombar – was badly kept and not good quality. Staff were friendly, but some of the younger regulars were openly hostile. I didn’t feel comfortable here and will probably brush past in future.

After my less than exciting visit to The Mars around the corner this one looked inviting

They advertise great pasties, so thought I would try one with my pint

No bar staff visible, plenty of drinkers in there, barmaid turned up, checked till, looked at me and then effed off to back bar to clear tables

So I effed off out the door

Nil stars for effort
