The village of Mentmore is not far from the Bridego Bridge, where the Great Train Robbery took place. We went to visit this bridge which I'd passed over the previous day going to/from Liverpool shortly after our visit here.

Set in very pretty countryside, this village pub has been taken on by the community. Whilst it was very quiet when we arrived, we received a friendly welcome and found a decent ale range - Tring 1847 & Colley's Dog & Leighton Buzzard Golden Buzzard. My Colley's Dog was easily my favourite beer of the day.

The interior has an interesting mismatch of furniture. Unfortunately we chose to sat under an air conditioning unit belting out cold air. But we could have chosen to move, with the rest of the pub to choose from!

My favourite pub of the day, but I'm not sure I liked the unedited Eminem soundtrack that was being played.

April 2015
Another pub reopened (at the end of 2014), and seeming to make a concession for all, with distinct areas set aside for drinkers (a bar with its own bar menu), cocktail bar and restaurant. The Chas Wells/Dogfish collaboration on tap was a surprise to see and eagerly snapped up. There's an Art Deco lean to the surroundings, which a lends a uniqueness to a tried-and-tested format, and the garden is an excellent sun-trap on a warm day.
