In the summer this pub has award winning floral displays which, as the pub has no garden, are exhibited in the numerous baskets and window boxes that adorn the building. When all of these flowers are in bloom, the exterior of the pub is ablaze with colour and, this alone, is worth a visit to this J.W.Lees house in Shaw.
There is no on-road parking but there is a Car Park situated on a lower level to the pub and it is accessed through Cunliffe Drive, which is the road immediately prior to the pub if coming up Grains Road from the town center. This means that it is unsuitable for anyone with difficulty with their mobility, unless they can be dropped off at the front door.
On entering, the door to the left is marked "Tap Room" and that on the right "Lounge". We entered the Lounge and found that every table was fully laid out for dining and several were occupied by people having their evening meal. As it was obvious that this room was a dedicated dining area,at least until meal service ended, we retreated to the Tap Room. Not the most comfortable of rooms but I suppose it served it purpose for those locals who enjoy darts and crib etc.
We had one drink and left. Locally it has a good name for food but if you just want a drink in comfort, then this may not be the pub for you.
As we came in for a drink, the rating given is based solely on that experience. An experience that left us feeling like second class citizens.

The Morning Star is situated just outside the town centre, and boasts a quite impressive floral display, and is also noted for the excellent food. The room on the right as you walk in is the lounge which is clearly centred on dining with all the tables being laid precisely.Called in one Tuesday afternoon and found the pub both hospitable and friendly, and was certainly worth the walk up from town.On a Sunday the pub gets busy and if you were thinking of dining it might be advisable to book a table.

Very good food with varied menu. Service is friendly and there is plenty of parking space. Have been a few times and we're definitely going back.
