A very handy pub back in the day with a telephone box out front and post box. No need for smart phones then, when carrying out your business from the local. This traditional pub had three seating areas, a lounge area either side of the entrance, the right hand side lounge being the quieter of the two. The bar area facing you as you enter, along the back wall, with barstools along the bar counter and low tables and chairs along the left hand wall. An older generation of locals were sat around the bar on our visit and were enjoying the banter with the young barmaid, who looked like a punk from the 1980's. Six pumps all in use along the bar, so we went for the Pictish Brewers Gold and the Donkeystone Cotton Clouds.

Visited November 2017 on a Wednesday afternoon. Six pumps at the bar. I went for Bray by Donkeystone which was the only one that stood out, and was £1.45 or so for a half. Amongst the others were Black Sheep and Tetley's.

Nice pub, if quiet, and had a real fire going, but not too adventurous on the ale front at the time of my visit.

Visited here on the day of the Whitsuntide Band Festival, in bright sunlight, and the town and pub were much busier than I assume they would normally be. Because of the festival plastic glasses were in use, and they had a large beer tent in the car park. 6 or 7 real ales were on tap, but I had a rather disappointing pint of Black Sheep for £3.10.
