A good sized “Sizzling Pub and Grill”, it was surprisingly busy on my recent mid-week lunchtime visit, being virtually full to capacity, almost entirely it would seem with pensioners who were eating. Service at the bar was a little slow, with just one person serving, and even she seemed to be absent for much of the time.

Décor wise it’s all really rather bland and generic with a very neutral shade of paint on the walls, so neutral in fact I couldn’t quite work out whether it was green, blue or grey. To be fair, there were some shades of maroon in places and a feature wall at one end had floral wallpaper, but even so it was all very monotonous. Flooring was predominantly a generic blue patterned carpet, with some black and white tiling at the front and a few bits of laminate elsewhere. Although all one large, open plan pub, the interior space was divided up a bit in to separate areas with some partition walling and wooden balustrade. There really was nothing else of any note – a few random pictures were on the walls, many of which seemed to feature horses or cutlery, and a soft toy grab machine, which perhaps hints somewhat at their target clientele.

The menu looked to be a mass produced, laminated affair and was definitely from the cheap and cheerful end of the spectrum. There was an extensive array of dishes divided in to sections such as grills, burgers, classics and so on, the latter featuring typical pub dishes such as Chicken Tikka Masala, Scampi & Chips, Roast Chicken, etc., and these were mostly priced around the £6 - £7 mark, with a further selection available at 2 for £8. A separate “Golden Years” menu offering two courses on week day lunchtimes for £4.79 no doubt explained the popularity with the older generation.

Beers on tap were Doom Bar, Greene King IPA and Tribute, whilst the ciders were Strongbow, Stowford Press and Thatcher’s Gold. Overall, there was nothing really wrong with this pub, it was tidy and up together, but it’s not the sort of place I would spend much time in, or make a special effort to get to.
