went to the pub on sat 15th the beer was off the bar was empty, that might be why the beer was off the landlord was grumpy, better of in the golden lion beer better customers more fun.

Summer 2007 this pub changed hands and what a difference that has made.
Before the beer was frankly undrinkable but now as you can see from the pictures there are 6 pumps all serving top notch ales. I tried 3 of the beers and found them absolutely spot on, in particular Crouch Vale 'Top Sail' was so good even the larger drinkers preferred it. If it is a selection of really good quality beer you want, then this is probably the best place in the Southend area at the moment, well worth a visit.

Had a nice pint of Maldon Gold which was very nice.According to Danny the new govenor,Maldon Gold and Sharps Special will be their regular beers with guest beers always on tap, Good luck to both Danny and Caroline as they are very nice people

Fairly comfortable pub on the outskirts of the town.A bit foody but they do about 6 real ales and they are usually in very good condition.Won this year's CAMRA SE Essex pub of the year.
