Greatly described by Will below, this is a local's pub under the auspices of Fuller's, with their wares much on display (London Pride, HSB and Oliver's Island on the stumps, joined by Robinson's Trooper) with Golden Pride and Black Cab Stout in bottled form in the fridge. Semi-open plan despite a fireplace stack mid-room, there were an enthusiastic games of cribbage taking place either side of the fireplace stack during my visit, and combined with friendly service and great beer (my Oliver's Island was in top condition) means this is worth a drop-in if you're in the area.

Much smarter inside than the fairly ordinary exterior seems to promise, this is a smart restaurant and village local. The former two roomed pub is now enlarged into one, with the second door from the lobby being blocked off to accommodate an extra table in the dining room. The original public bar is therefore relegated to a passage with tables and chairs for drinkers, and four hand pumps on the nearby stretch of bar. The bar continues into the former saloon, with a further four hand pumps there.

I'm told there used to be seven Fullers beers on here, but when I visited there were five, with guests from Lacon, Holts and Ossett. The Fullers range of Pride, Chiswick Bitter, ESB plus Gales HSB and Seafarer were supplemented by several more in bottles on the bar back, including the London Porter. The guest ales must change regularly, judging by the number of pump clips displayed on the walls.

The restaurant is strong on fish and shellfish, the lingering smell of which I found a little off-putting on entry, but to be fair it wasn't overpowering, and I settled down to enjoy my half of Chiswick before cycling to Dunstable. Anyone living more locally could do a lot worse than make this a destination pub for a session.

Great selection of beers and food, and a good atmosphere. I hear the owners are looking to sell, which would be very unfortunate.
