This place is now called Lion Cub Nursery so its days as a pub are gone for good.

Terrible customer service
I went to this pub with some team mates before a bout we had at Eastbourne Extreme to get a bite to eat. It was fortunate we had a few hours to spare as it took about 50 minutes for our food to arrive (and 30 minutes for our order to be taken). When it did arrive it was not as described in the menu, 'pie with mash and seasonal veg' was actually pie with chips and a spoonful of frozen peas. When asked for mash rather than chips we were treated as an annoyance, and then told there was only enough mash for one. I had to point out my disappointment and ask for a discount to my bill before it was begrudgingly agreed, and measly at only about £1 off the dish.

Throughout my visit I felt we were treated poorly by a very unfriendly barmaid. No one ever apologised for the delay for our food.

I wouldn't visit here again.

After sometime as the Beach and more recently the Big Apple this pub and restaurant is now known as Oscars. There is a lot of floor space that is split into two areas with a public bar that benefits from the addition of a pool table and a much larger area where all of the tables are usually set for dining. The bar supports one hand pump that draws Harveys Best, but I cannot recall ever seeing anyone in here order ale as most people stick to the Peroni and limited standard draught products. The food menu seems reasonably priced and is made up of grilled meat and pizza along with fish and chips which is available to take-away. The kitchen is open until 22:00 every night except for Mondays when the pub is shut. Bar opening times on the other days are 17:00 until 23:00 Tuesdays until Fridays and midday until 23:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. This pub used to have a bit of a reputation as being a loud late night bolt hole for the young drunks of the area so I imagine that the local residents are pleased to see regular closing hours. I have actually been in a couple of times after the recent name change and I am glad to report that the service has been friendly and the atmosphere has been very welcoming even though it hasn’t been very busy at the times I have visited. The background music mainly originates from the eighties and nineties and I’ve heard that there is a projector screen in the main bar area, but there is no Sky Sports. There is a quiz every Wednesday from 20:00 and most days there is some sort of meal deal in progress which makes the food very tempting.

This is still not a place that I would class as a destination pub, but after an afternoon on the beach I can think of far worse places to go for a bit to eat than here.
