This was only the second Hickory's Smokehouse I'd been to, the other being in Coventry back in 2018. We were mainly here for the food and to watch the football on one of this place's multiple TV screens. However, this place has been in the Good Beer Guide as recently as 2017.

It's certainly a popular place. We turned up at 7:40pm on a Thursday evening but did not get a table for an hour, choosing to sit at the bar while we waited. More of a restaurant than a pub, there are less tables inside than it initially appears, with an open kitchen taking up a fair amount of space. They make up for this with a large outdoor area, including several pods which I believe were heated. We were offered one of these, instead of waiting. But it was still too cold for that.

At the bar, the solitary handpull was dispensing Purity Mad Goose. Keg beers included Wild Horse Nokota & Purity Driftaway & Hickory's Pale Ale.

Food was not cheap but I had a platter of various types of meat which was better value than most things on the menu. In fact, I failed to finish it all. The whole theme is based on American BBQ restaurants. It is quite dark inside and you cannot get away from the many TVs, even if you try.

Ok for a meal but I wouldn't want to use this as a pub. Although some people sat at the bar clearly were there only for the drinks.
