on Friday 5th August my boyfriend and i recommended my brother and his partner to this restruant for a meal. (i'd been eating here for over a year now at one stage once a week, and there service was good and the food was amazing.) three of us ordered a sirlion steak each (as ive had it before and it was good) we paid for it and sat back down. 10 minutes later the manager comes over to tell us they have no sirlion just rump and rib-eye! so we agreed on rib eye we then noticed we had paid £11.99 for the sirlion and the rib-eye only came to £10.99 so my brother went up to ask for the difference the manager didnt even try to compromise for the inconvenience. when the food evenually arrived my brother noticed it wasnt rib-eye it was rump which is even cheaper by £3 by now i was embarressed by recommending. we all ordered medium to rare it came to us not the way we ordered it looked as though it had been flash fried even the waitress cudnt tell us how it was cooked she thought it was well done and it was swimming in blood ???? all our chips were soggy and our peas weren't cooked properly still crunchy!! my brother went up to the bar to complain and we could hear argueing next minute the manager walks out to us with him and points out this IS rib-eye steak and i mentioned i'd been coming here for a while and they had cooked some lovely steaks and she said this is how we cook it. my brother asked her what she was going to do and she replied 'i dont know' sorry but that doesnt sound or look very professional!!
also throught the situation the manager continued to argue, shout and laugh at my brother i believe she has let the name of this pub and the reputation down.in the end we had no refund and no appology. i will not be eating here again thats for sure!!!!

This is a strange pub. The first thing I noticed on walking in was a large food serving counter right in front of me. This was a bit off-putting as I was only popping in for a pint. The food theme seemed to continue throughout the pub – the room off to the right appeared to be full of tables laid up for a Christmas party, and all the tables in the other bar area were laid up for food to some degree or another with place mats on all of them. The only place we could seem to sit for a pint was the two bar stools, and even these were the wrong height being too low for the bar. As I said, a strange pub.
Every available nook and cranny, and every beam of the ceiling was plastered with stuff, mostly Christmas decorations which I thought were up a bit early. There wasn't a square inch of space anywhere. Behind the bar (near the Buddha!) was a rack dispensing Stowell's Liebfraumilch (does anyone actually drink that any more?). The menu's on the wall sported an odd black, white and red colour scheme and offered such delights as Scampi & chips, Prawn Cocktail, Potato wedges, etc. Not entirely unsurprisingly there was only one other table occupied in the pub. The bar area was dominated by a large plasma, which was handy for the staff who could sit and watch X-factor as there wasn't anyone for them to serve.

On the plus side the staff seemed friendly enough, and there was a good choice of ciders – Blackthorn, Thatcher's Gold and Thatcher's Traditional. Also Butcombe and 6X beers on tap.
