Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Waiting Room

Micropub on the northbound platform of Durham station. It has only just re-opened with limited opening hours, as demand from railway travellers had been much reduced during these uncertain times.

I had walked up the hill from the town. But I guess I was in the minority, with most customers being rail travellers.

Just the single real ale was on - Hadrian Border Tyneside Blonde. But I needed a drink after the steep uphill climb. The former waiting room itself is nicely done out and there is a further seating area on the platform itself. Certainly handy if using the train. But I was expecting a little more than just the one real ale.

Old Boots left this review about The Waiting Room

Converted railway waiting room nicely finished with bare boards, dark wood and old fashioned furnishings. The cream and chocolate tilework is very BR as is a lot of the signage, the green walls also have an old railway fell about them. Three pulls but only two from Hadrian Border on this visit and I was disturbed to pay £4 for 3.5% brown beer, no matter how good. Micro sized, with outside seating on the platform, but it sells a full range of drinks including four kegs.

One room with bar to the right side. Two hand pumps but not strong, rest keg. OK for a quick drink if you are waiting for a train.

Real Ale Ray left this review about The Waiting Room

This Grade II listed Station bar opens daily and was definitely worth getting off the train to have a pint here. This one room bar was finished to an extremely high standard, with buttoned back leather banquette seating, a well constructed bar area, polished in dark mahogany and the two original cast iron fireplaces, refurbished and as good as new. The walls were finished in a heritage green colour. They had also managed to keep the original oak floorboards. Three pumps with two in use on our Sunday Eve visit, Wylam Gold Tankard and Hadrian Border Tyneside Blonde. Both were in good order, so we waited for the later train. There was also a good sized seating area on the platform side.
