Will Larter left this review about The Dudley Arms

This old stone-built pub, with multiple rooms featuring fielded wood panelling, is aimed squarely at the dining-out corner of the market. I was here on what used to be called Mothering Sunday and there were numerous family groups with mothers and grandmothers being made to feel special, though I did hear one man complain about how pricey the food was, so the women in his life can't have been all that special.

The landlord is one of those annoying men who goes around finding fault with his staff and saying things like "a tidy bar is a happy bar". To which the only response would be "a dead bar manager makes everyone happy". There are two hand pumps on the bar, and I found a corner to sit within earshot while supping my beer, in the hope of picking up any further management tips. The beer was bland but drinkable: Wainwright being the only one on, with a reversed pump-clip on the other.

I had twenty minutes to kill before catching my train to Whitby from nearby Battersby Junction, but I couldn't face another Wainwright, or any more of the aural assault from the background music, which was middle-of-the-road warbling at a reasonable volume, but featuring one of those screaming divas whose voice somehow pierces any attempt at patient acceptance and makes me want to reach for my machine gun.
