Will Larter left this review about 1863 Bar & Bistro

According to the 1863 website, Elm House (the name still appears above the door) "was built first as the village blacksmith and later it became the post office", though it looks like more a bed & breakfast hotel to me. It has recently been re-imagined as a bar and bistro with rooms - bar open from 2pm, bistro from 6pm, with no food available before then. A great deal of money appears to have been spent, but the place would look better in my opinion if more taste and less cash had been involved.

Looking on the bright side, there were two hand pumps on the small bar to the left on entering, with local beers from Keswick and Tirril breweries. My Cumbrian Challenge, from Keswick, was in very good condition, but the ten minutes or so spent perched on a bar stool and being entertained by the Carpenters and Abba on the sound system were not among my more comfortable pub experiences.
