A series of industrial sheds comprise Oundle Wharf, which is on a backwater of the River Nene but not far from the main river. The Nene Valley Brewery is in a seperate building, while the Tap is wooden glad and feels welcoming .It has a side covered veranda with lift up sides giving a pleasing view over the small wharf and the various watersports which take place here.(Ooh Err Missus). There is an offputting wait to be seated lecturn on entering, the right side of the building has a raised and lower dining room, but on enquiring if just drinking was OK I was directed left. Here is the bar,a lot of high tables and the entrance to the veranda with it's pic nic bench seating.
On my visit there were 4 handpumped NVB ales ,all low ABV comprising Manhatten Project (NBSS 3),Blonde Session Pale,Simple Pleasures and Nene Valley Bitter. The keg selection was wider from a menu listing 10 namely NVB Heisenberg Lager,Big Bang Theory,Call me Bubbles (decent),Here's the Thing (had run out when I ordered but still listed on the chalk board) ,Pulping Your Sterio,Release the Chimps,Egyptian Cream Milk Stout (best beer I sampled) with a single guest in Staropramen .The keg selection had higher ABV's than the ale.
Indide it's barn like, there are some nice touches such as a modern wood burner and old signage but the food side does seem to dominate,it's family friendly but children will run around so it does not have the feel of a Brewery Tap.
Shame that the real ale was only low strength, if some of the keg output was offered as real ale then the score would have been higher. However probably the best place to drink in Oundle,a town with few pubs.

What a brilliant place this is. Not far from Nene brewery shop this bar and restaurant is a delight for ale lovers. 10 keg taps and 8 cask which had 6 beers and a cider on yesterday. A notice said 4 thirds for £6 so tried 3 Nene brewery cask ales and 1 keg. They were placed in a small wooden box with the beer names entered on the side. All good. The bar itself has 2 main areas, one with seating for drinkers, and the other side set up for diners. A door leads out to the wharf itself with plenty of seating. It is a short walk to the Nene Valley brewery shop where there are fridges full of bottles and cans, plus more of their beer on gravity dispense.
