Blackthorn _ left this review about The Confessional

A new venue in the ever expanding Milsom Place development, this is not a pub in the strictest sense but more of a cocktail bar type venue. Located underground in the vaulted cellars, it can be accessed from either a nondescript door in Milsom Street or the lower level of Milsom Place.

The vaulted brickwork in the cellar gives it quite a pleasant ambience, unless you’re claustrophobic I suppose. The interior space is divided up in to a number of rooms off a long corridor as well as more intimate seating areas off to the side and there is one small table in the courtyard at the rear. Lighting was the usual trendy exposed filament bulbs that are obligatory in pub renovations these days and the seating was a mixture of curved leather bench seating making a pod around a table as well as a few conventional tables and chairs. An unusual feature in a nod to the pub’s name was a confessional booth at the rear, although I’m not sure you could actually go in! We didn’t eat on this occasion, but the food menu looked to consists of a number of charcuterie platters and such like.

Unfortunately there were no ales on tap, real or otherwise, although the menu listed a few bottled options and whilst I didn’t study this in detail I did notice something from Bristol micro Wiper & True. The cider choice was again bottled, this time from Honey & Daughter at Midford. Cocktails are certainly the main thing here, although with only seven or eight to choose from it’s not as extensive as many places. The choices were unusual too, no Screaming Orgasm or Sex on the Beach here. My elderflower concoction was decent enough and included a blackberry in place of the more usual citrus fruits, whilst Mrs. B's Twist my Melons was also well received.
