Having enjoyed a decent bacon cheeseburger at the Lounges venue in Sittingbourne in Kent I thought I’d have another here in Unico before continuing on my crawl of the area. The open plan layout, art on the walls and faux distressed furniture seems to be the same in all these establishments. They’re also all child and dog friendly meaning that they are accessible by all, which may put some off. The bar counter in the right rear corner supports premium and craft keg, and I believe the same options are found across this chain.
My visit was on a Monday afternoon just before 17:00 when five or so of the tables were being used. Oddly all the groups consisted of a single woman and a child in school uniform. I ordered the £14 burger, which was very tasty, and a pint of Cruzcampo. The very friendly young lady serving me informed that happy hour was about to kick in, so I waited a couple of minutes at the bar for the till clock to hit 17:00. During happy hour every meal comes with a free glass of wine, or a pint for £1, so £15 for a burger and a pint was actually very good value. I’ve logged this in the back of my brain for future reference as these places seem to be everywhere now. Too food centric to be considered as a drinking only venue, but I like the surroundings for eating and the burger is actually quite good.

One of those Loungers places which all basically look the same. And this one is no different, though it does seem to have an upstairs bit. Lots of portrait pictures on the walls and fancy light shades. Bath Ales stout is on. As these places are 'cafe bars' the ever pervading smell of coffee fills the air. Full of crying kids as seems the norm of an afternoon with these places.
