A fantastic country pub hidden away in a remote village. It has a 2018 GBG entry. This is very much off the beaten track, but it’s well worth the effort to find. It sits in a picturesque hamlet with a church and a small group of agricultural houses. The pub has its own car park and a garden with a small terrace, and there are views down the valley. The building has 17th Century roots. Inside, there are 2 bars, one mainly for dining, the other more of a drinkers’ bar, and there is a function room at the back. There are 6 barrels on stillage behind the bar, from which Betty Stoggs, Otter Bitter and Otter Cider were being dispensed. The ales were in perfect condition. The pubs décor is basic, there are structural timbers on display and the furniture is functional. Food is locally sourced, freshly prepared and about averagely priced. The barman is very welcoming and chatty, while the clientele are a mix of locals and long-distance dog walkers. It really is worth making the effort to find of you have the time, and it’s on the 2018 Somerset Ale Trail.
