Sadly all 4 handpumps were empty on Thursday, didn't even have turned round clips on them

01/08/2014
Called in here last Thursday night as we had been told they were selling real ale. We walked in and there was only 1 person in the place talking to the barmaid. There were indeed 2 handpumps on the bar selling Pedigree and Marstons New World Pale. I asked for a pint of the New World Pale, the barmaid said "You might want a taster of that first, we haven't sold any today yet". This was at 10:30 on a Thursday night!!! I said "No thanks, we'll just leave it". It's a small one roomer that looks a bit like a 70's disco bar. We might try it again one day.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Oscars

Describing itself as a sports and cocktail bar, it's not the sort of place I would normally take a second look at, so it came as something of a surprise to find four real ales from Great Newsome on handpump here (of which I went for the Jem's Stout). Nothing much to say about the modern interior, but it is certainly worth considering if heading to or from the Old Town area.

Long narrow barn of a place at the base of a fairly modern building, apparently converted from a solicitors office not so long ago. The modern interior is lit like the Reeperbahn and is aimed squarely at the upmarket evening crowd. There’s a slight raised area to the right and lots of screens on the walls and even above the bar. It generally it feels like it’s set up more for the football and late night crowd than regular drop-in punters and this was reflected in it being almost empty at 6pm on a Friday evening. Whilst the bar offering veers more towards the bottled drinks and cocktail market there are four ales available, all from the Great Newsome brewery. My Prickly Back was in good shape. Not really somewhere to get excited about but useful if you’re local on a night out.

A modern office conversion offering four real ales, all from Great Newsome, not a brewery I am greatly familiar with but my Hops in Spring was more than Ok, again not a place I would go out of my way to visit again but worth calling in if in the locality.

My last stop on an extensive crawl around Hull,Oscars was last but by no means least on the trip. It's a modern bar which extends a long was back with a large servery to the rear on the left side and a raised seating area opposite.Screens run along above the bar but with the volume on mute when no games are in progress. It wasnt very busy at 6pm on a Friday evening which was surprising. 4 handpumps were drawing four brews from Great Newsome namely Frotheringham Best ,Jems Stout, Prickly Back Otcham and Hops in Spring (very decent).
Well worth including on a crawl around the real ale venues in the city centre,Oscars was a lot better than I was expecting.
