Paul McScotty left this review about Alston Bar & Beef

Although the Alston is really a (Beef) restaurant it does have a really nice bar - With its main entrance situated at the Gordon Street entrance to Central Station its probably an easy to miss destination. Entry is down a few steps of (slippy in winter) stairs where you are greeted by a large whitewashed brick bunker styled area, most of which is given over to diners but there is a VERY very impressive and stylish Gin bar area (it sells other drinks as well including Tennents on tap) with a nice white fllor. white marble( effect?) bar with nicely lit shelves showing off a fine cocktails , gins, spirits etc- there are some nice tables and seats available for folk just wanting a drink . Drinks are expensive at about £3 plus a shot (add your mixer to that and its nearly £4 min) but it does have some excellent Gins from Tanquery, Botanist, Edinburgh Gin and Caorunn - Alston has a great website that is worth checking out if planning a visit - a very classy place but perhaps a bit pricey for a quick drink on the way home from work (toilets are spotless)
