This pub in the small village of Abergorlech was my final stop of the day in Carmarthenshire and was my favourite pub of the day on this visit to the county.

Parking is in a small area opposite the pub. It's quite a cramped space. I could hear the River Cothi in the background. However, it was dark on my arrival. So, I couldn't see it.

Just 5 other customers were present. I'm not sure whose all of the cars were in the car park, but the atmosphere inside was just right. A mother, father and daughter looked like they had just finished a meal and were debating about which countries were in the former Soviet Union, whilst another couple of gents were chatting with the friendly barmaid at the bar.

There is a single room with a stone floor and a very traditional feel. Blackboards list an enticing menu, with a separate board listing the provenance of all of the ingredients, to verify that everything is locally sourced.

Beers are also sourced from West Wales. Evan Evans Warrior is the regular beer. A guest beer was Tenby Harbwr Tamar's Tusk, which was easily the most enjoyable beer tasted across the day.

Toilets are just across the entrance hallway, which has a table holding a number of leaflets advertising local activities and attractions. A wifi code is supplied at the bar. This is especially useful, as I had no mobile phone signal at all.

The Black Lion was a new entry to the Good Beer Guide in 2022, and its entry in the latest Guide is still certainly warranted.

A nice village pub, noted for its home made cakes, which it stays open all day to sell with coffees and teas but which go equally well with a nice drop of ale! The tabled bar room is rustically genteel, and you would need to move furniture (and locals) to get to the dartboard. At the back is a dining room while across the car park are nice gardens overlooking the river. Two ales on offer here were Evan Evans Warrior and Tenby Harbour Sea Horse. Closed Mondays however.
