Blackthorn _ left this review about The New Inn

A traditional looking stone-built pub on the outskirts of Weston-super-Mare, there is outside seating in the top part of the car park, as well as something of a courtyard garden from the looks of things, although we did not investigate this.

There were two doors outside, one was a traditional pub design with stained glass and was designated as the Tea Room, although this was closed on our visit. Through the other door to the main part of the pub, this opened out in to a large room divided in to two halves. The front half had a pool table and darts board, whilst the rear was more traditional and a little quirky in some ways. Flooring was some sort of polished wood strip, whilst the walls were mostly painted deep magenta with grey wood panelling down below. An old stone fireplace was at one end, and above this a rolled-up projector screen, so presumably major sporting fixtures are screened. A number of old black and white pictures of the locale were dotted around the walls and these were quite interesting to see what Weston was like in it’s heyday. Various other odds and ends were also in evidence, including a collection of Dinky cars, old oil cans, a number of old comics and all sorts of old food packaging items, amongst them Oxo, Homepride flour and Colman’s mustard.

Despite three handpumps on the bar, only one was in use dispensing Doom Bar. Ciders fared somewhat better with Thatcher’s Gold, Thatcher’s Haze and Orchard Pig Reveller. All in all, a pleasant enough pit stop but I’m not sure it’s worth making a special detour for, especially given the limited ale choice.

A good old fashioned pub, located in Kewstoke which is a few miles away from Weston. When I first visited The New Inn, they had a seperate tea room/games room. During our visit last summer, the room was closed, but the new landlord said it might reopen in the near future. The landlord was a friendly chap, he told us that he used to manage a pub in Dursley Gloucestershire, which was nice.

Some of the drinks on offer were Thatchers Haze, and Wadworth 6X. There is a courtyard at the back of the pub, which is a nice sun trap. The New Inn is a real community asset, and we look forward to our next visit when we are in the area.
