Knackered Craft Union pub, inside is shot to bits via a nasty baby puke colourscheme. Looking deeper there's a half decent boozer trying to get out, the lower servery has some tidy wood carving and there's some nice old leaded stained glass dotted about; someone obviously chucked money at this a few years ago but it's been squandered. Two naked pumps so a fairly dire Crazcumpo was my booby prize. Scaffolding subsequently appeared just before I finished my sojourn in the town so I wonder if things might look better in 6 months. Or they could look worse, you can never tell these days.

A Craft Union pub just off the main double roundabout, Craft Union should tell you all you need to know. It’s a U shaped place with a central truncated U shaped counter. Usual suspects on a couple of T-Bars plus two hand pulls one with a reversed clip, the other blank. Some nice stained glass remains in odd places and there’s a nice carved frieze on the counter which is otherwise tongue and groove. A couple of banquettes survive in leather and tartan upholstery and there’s a right old mix of furniture including some cast iron based tables. ‘Sports on telly’ fans won’t be disappointed, they are well catered for and there’s a pool table and dart board in the short side of the U. Fairly offhand, uninterested, landlady and the usual market town type punters.

This is the closest pub to the new Spoons and despite it seemed to be doing a reasonable trade on my lunchtime visit. On entering there is a central bar with distinct areas around it. There was lots of wood used and carpets throughout. A quiz is advertised for Wednesday and Live Music on Friday and Saturday night.
I counted three handpumps dotted around the bar but could not see any clips.
On enquiring it transpired that they just had Hobgoblin (£2.80) which was in decent condition.
This wasn't a bad place but if it's interesting real ale you're after it's rather limited.
