Verandah Bar @ York House Hotel, Eastbourne

The Verandah Bar is located on the seafront and is the bar of the York House Hotel. It is located on the right hand side of the hotel, has its own entrance and, apart from a connecting door that leads to the hotel and toilets, it is separate. It is fairly small and there is only a limited standard draught selection which is drunk by hotel guests as the locals wouldn’t bother with this place. There was no music during my visit last Saturday evening and a plasma screen was showing muted rolling news. There is a decked veranda out the front with views over the beach and sea and although the advertisements say that this is the last veranda on the seafront in Eastbourne there are more comfortable places to sit with the same views.

As far as I know the only pub in Eastbourne Town on the seafront with sea views is the Crown and Anchor with outside seating that consists of two picnic tables and a very small balcony. Thus a hotel front is the only way to lap up the sea air so I can see the attraction, but I would still rather drink in a pub in the backstreets.
