One of many similar unappealing bars on the strip leading up to the pier, this one doubles up as a Chinese all you can eat buffet, although there did not appear to be anyone partaking of this on a recent Thursday evening visit. Quite how they make any money when the nature of these places dictate that the food must be prepared and available is a bit of a mystery. If it was in Bristol it would have been packed. We have walked out of here on previous occasions as no one bothered to serve us, and whilst we did get served promptly enough this time, the young barmaid appeared somewhat reluctant to interrupt the conversation she was having with a friend in order to go to the trouble of serving us. A number of midges were flying around which was somewhat annoying, and would certainly have put me off eating in there bearing in mind all the food was in open help yourself trays.

Decor wise it has something of a red and black colour theme, and this even extends to the backs of all the seating which were fitted with alternating stripes of red and black. Flooring is predominantly wood and there was a small dance floor at the rear along with a DJ booth and a lighting rig. A raised area runs along the left half of the pub, and this is perhaps more intended for diners, with the buffet stations being beyond this. A metal shimmering dragon was on the left hand wall whilst the cream plastered ceiling had recessed pink lighting. A long black bar counter was on the right with red stools alongside.

Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, or indeed much of anything on keg. Just some smoothflow concoction I believe, although I did not note which one. Ciders fared slightly better with Thatcher’s Gold and Strongbow Dark Fruit.
