I was last in the Angel about four years ago, and it had perhaps been done up a bit since then unless my memory is deceiving me. At the bar just two hand pumps for cask ale, offering St Austell Proper Job and Sharp's Atlantic at the time of my visit on Friday afternoon. My Proper Job set me back £1.80 for a half and was in decent condition.

It was around 3pm and there were a few tables of older people in (some had been dining), and a small younger crowd round the bar.

Dogs are welcome and it is presumably child friendly as there were a couple in there. It's a fairly nice pub and had a decent enough atmosphere. A TV was on at the bar showing horse racing. I'm pretty sure there used to be a large TV in the main seating area but this has now gone and the focal point is the fireplace.

Five cask ales were listed on a chalk board but there are only two pumps at the bar, so presumably the others listed were waiting in the cellar and due on next. I don't recall any of those listing standing out as being particularly exciting.

Yet another open plan, low ceiling pub with white walls, this one is on two floor levels. The lower floor is a sort of public bar with a darts board and a good collection of trophies, there are a couple of leather sofas and some benches down one side. The main part of the bar counter is on the upper deck with more bench seating, a brick fireplace with a collection of artillery shell cases and a big screen, there is a little TV on the bar counter as well. Two sets of two pumps deliver well kept Landlord plus guests, including one from Rudgate and one from Castle Rock. The locals were a friendly bantering lot with an interest in horse racing, the area is home to a number of stables of course.
