A perfectly functional town local - two sides round the bar with a smattering of sports-related elements; darts, TVs, trophies etc. The good turnout of regulars seemed happy enough. A reasonable Pedigree on handpump with Theakston's Summit clip reversed.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Neptune

Unremarkable city-centre pub, albeit with a slightly unusual 'H'-shaped layout and some decorative timber-work just below ceiling level. Busy with a mixed crowd early on a Saturday evening, with loud conversations competing with 1970s music. Just Doom Bar and Pedigree (£3.50) from the two handpumps.

A basic pub that does its function. There was no cask on during this visit but that's not a problem. Average.

Despite what this pub may have been like in the past it has always been a friendly place for a good game of darts with some decent players from time to time. Beer selection is sometimes spotty as they run out of the casks. Definelty one of my stops when in town on business.

When I worked in Derby about 4 years ago this pub had a bit of a poor reputation. There were often people in here drinking at 9 in the morning when I was heading to work. I think it was the first bar in Derby to embrace 24 hour drinking. Anyway I called in for the first time last week not really knowing what to expect. What I found was a small pub with the bar directly facing you as you walk in and seating down both sides in a horseshoe shape. It was pretty quiet even on a Saturday night with just a few couples and solitary drinkers dotted about. There is a handpump on the bar but the pump clip was turned round on my visit so I just had a half of a standard lager, I can't remember what. There's a quiz machine in here as well which I won a couple of quid on which more than paid for the drink. It's not the greatest of pubs, but it's nowhere near as bad as its reputation was. I probably won't call in again, but I'm glad I did just to lay some ghosts to rest.
