David Ross left this review about The Wanlockhead Inn

Despite having the distinction of being the highest pub in Scotland, in the highest village in Scotland, the Wanlockhead Inn is a fairly undistinguished, although perfectly acceptable, pub. The cramped room designated as the bar is where the local regulars congregate in the evenings. It has a real fire, wood panelling and children aren’t permitted there. An opening leads to the extensive lounge and diner, where children are allowed until 8.00 p.m., although service is from the same bar. The lounge also contains a pool table and a flat screen TV (with less than perfect reception, probably due to remoteness and altitude). There is also a games room with table football etc. Food is available from mid-day opening time until 8.00 p.m. and closing time is midnight most nights and 1.00 a.m. on Fridays. Note, however, that the Inn is closed on Mondays. Both meals and drink are inexpensive, although the food was no better than ordinary. The outdoor drinking area is more in the nature of a field than a beer garden and the sheep roaming free around it (as they do in the rest of the village) provide an unlikely countryside curiosity. Due to its exposed location, 1417 feet above sea level, it is also often extremely windy. Wanlockhead is a recommended overnight stopping point on the Southern Upland Way Long Distance Footpath and the Inn offers “wigwam” accommodation, in the garden, complete with heater and TV, for £10 per night. The Inn’s facilities, including toilets, are only available during its opening hours, however. Don’t spend all your time here in the pub, though. Wanlockhead has an interesting industrial heritage, including a light railway (operating in summer only) and a preserved lead mine offering guided tours.
