Not necessarily a ‘come hither’ pub from the outside but stepping-in rewards, a traditional interior with some lovely old skool touches. Front would have been two rooms off a corridor and is now knocked-through into an upside-down Y shape. There are more rooms beyond and down the corridor leads to a modern courtyard garden. Dark beams, tiled floor, a plethora of hanging jugs, tankards and a good selection of breweriana to be seen, especially of note is the ‘Bass from the wood’ sign above the bar. Unusually, there's a perch by the left side of the bar which is where I parked myself. Four pumps with three on, a decent set of stagers in Bass, Wye Valley HPA and TT Landlord. My Bass was lovely (NBSS 4). Cobs for £1.50, a startlingly low price and not bad either. Not GBG listed – but it should be. 8.5

A back street local on the edge of the town centre with three small rooms in a continuous space. Classic pub fittings include leather bench seats and scrubbed pine tables. Service was friendly and the beer was in very good condition, with a choice of Sharps Doom bar, Fullers London Pride and Marstons Pedigree on three of four hand pumps. The pub sponsors the local football team and this knowledge adds to the feeling of a proper local.

The Jolly Potters is in the middle of Castle Donington and it used to be a Bass tied house and there is still a Bass lantern over the front door.
Once inside here the pub has been opened out but has lots of different drinking areas, ther were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Bass and this was a nice drink the other beer was GK IPA.
