13/08/17 Sorry chaps, currently boarded up with a fence round it, ready for demolition.

15/01/18 Gone. Soon to become a Co-Op mini supermarket.

The Double Top is large odd shaped pub In the back streets of Chilwell. As Mark Mentions the rumors are true and this site has been sold to the CO-OP. However the landlady has told me that there is a chance of this not happening if planning permission is denied and there are several bodies fighting against the change which is good to hear so watch this space. As the name suggests the pub is a two roomed building with two large circular rooms is equal size that is quite unique and I have never seen a layout like this before. The left hand room is the bar room, I did not venture into the right hand side room but believe there is a pool table. The bar curved around the far right hand side wall with many tables and chairs dotted around and some comfy bench seating around the outer walls. The décor is very traditional with carpets throughout and rustic fixtures and fittings. I don’t mind these type of places but can see how some people would look at that and think they were a bit shabby. The beer selection was just the standard keg line up except for a lone hand pull dispensing a very nice drop of Deuchars IPA for £3.10. Some would complain at the lack of beer choice but they obviously don’t sell a lot of ale so having one really well kept beer is something to be proud of I think, I can name so many that just wouldn’t bother so they get credit for this. This is very much a local’s haunt but all the people in seemed very friendly and I wouldn’t mind popping back here for a nicely kept pint if in the area. It’s not the sort of place to go searching for but if in this neck of the woods I can recommend it. I really hope this place doesn’t get converted into a supermarket, I have seeing pubs demolished but must admit that sometimes there are some that are just so dire and not viable , this however I feel does not fall into that category.

I understand that the days of the Double Top are numbered.

Rumour has it that planning permission has been granted to demolish it and build a Coop Express supermarket....Just what we need...NOT!

Probably all my fault as I live 800yards away and haven't been in for 30 years.

The Double Top is an estate type pub that looks a bit different to most pubs.
When i first went in this pub it was an Home Ales tied house with a separate lounge and bar and Home Bitter and Mild on the bar.
I decided to revisit this pub as there is now a tram stop a couple of minutes walk from it.
Once inside the pub is pretty much as it was when i first went in it,there are still two separate rooms, the bar to the left is a fairly large round shaped room with the bar facing, the room is carpeted and the seating comfy bench type and normal tables and chairs, there is a dart board near the entrance, the TVs were showing Rugby.
The lounge to the right is a similar round shape but smaller than the bar room,it is carpeted and has comfy bench seating and chairs, there is a pool table in the middle of the room.
There was one real ale on which was Deuchars IPA,this was a decent drink.
I thought this was a pleasant and comfortable pub to have a drink in.
