The pub is largely unchanged from Mr Fastard’s review six years ago. For this and the Feathers Inn down the hill in Wadesmill the focus is clearly on food. But that’s hardly surprising considering that the A10 by-pass has removed any passing traffic, so you have to do something to pull the punters in. And it seemed to be working for my mid-week evening visit as the restaurant section to the left was completely full and there were a fair few utilising the pleasant outside covered patio area with its upmarket metal furniture.
Fortunately as it was a balmy evening the small inside bar was largely empty and we utilised this for a couple of decent pints of Adnams Bitter which was on two of the pumps with Broadside on the other.
We didn’t eat so cannot on the comments below, which frankly are better off on the Trip advisor restaurant review site than here, but for a decent pint a small detour from the A10, it’s perfectly fine..

Popped in on way home for a drink after a lovely evening out in Hertford. Ordered a large red wine and a pint of cider.... cost us £11!!! The wine was £7 for a glass! The barmaid was rude and grumpy. I would not go back again. They are a village pub not a London bar!

Appallingly rude and aggressive owner. Waited so long for our food that we gave up. Owner said that all food was freshly cooked, which would be great, but my husband only ordered ham, egg and chips and I was having a medium/rare steak - surely this doesn't take over an hour???!!! Owner's attitude stank. Would absolutely not recommend this place.

First recorded as a pub in 1660 and at the entrance to Hanbury Manor Hotel and Golf Course, this is a country dining pub with a smart interior. There are lots of old beams and low ceilings with a restaurant area to the left of a small bar by the front door.To the right is a small lounge where it is possible to simply drink but all the tables throughout the interior have large numbers displayed ,leaving you in no doubt that food service is the primary objective for the friendly staff.Three handpumps ,with two dispensing Adnams Bitter (well kept) and the third Broadside. There is a lunchtime menu but ,as with the main menu ,most main courses start at £10 with the more exotic closer to £15,including a daily special. The cooking quality is high and the premium pricing justified. There is an elegant outside terrace with up market metal furniture which would be a good drinking alternative in fine weather.I will probably return for a meal, especially if a more upmarket venue compared with most pubs in the locality is required.
