A fairly old pub that has been modernised inside and has probably lost a lot of its character. We were initially the only customers on our Friday afternoon visit, but were soon joined by another customer looking to eat.

There are a couple of rooms, front and back, with toilets downstairs. The young barman was quite welcoming, but certainly didn't seem too knowledgeable when it came to beers and pubs. Gem & Tribute are the regular real ales. Proper Job was the third beer, with Rosie's Pig occupying the 4th handpull which was hidden away in the corner.

Much change here. Refitted in a modern style, you can still smell B&Q and is fairly sparse beyond the Griffin motif. Genuinely quiet pub, oppressively so. Four cask with three clipped and one off, leaving a St Austell duo of Tribute and Hicks (NBSS 2) at a ludicrous (even for Bath) £3.25 a half. Can't see it lasting in this guise as it appeals to almost nobody, evidenced by there being only four other punters on what was a fairly busy Wednesday evening elsewhere. Apparently run by St Austell which I find surprising, they usually know how to operate a decent a house. Maybe they let the YTS loose on this one?

A spick-and-span refurbished pub with a modern interior. Laid out over two rooms, with a front and back (Beauford) bar. The interior is a chocolately brown and cream affair, complemented by flock wallpaper and some exposed stone walls. There’s a beer/whiskey barrel in the bar alongside a Watney’s Red Barrel too for good measure. The advertised ‘secret garden’ is in fact a small square! I rather liked the funky clock behind the bar and the friendly barmaid that served us on my last visit. Four (or was it five??) local ales on the go alongside a proper cider. I can’t remember what I had but it was good nonetheless. The downstairs bogs have some quality antique fittings as well as a ‘thought of the day’ blackboard. Board games available at the bar. The visit before last I bumped into and old Uni friend here - small world. Whilst this one is perhaps a little clinical for my liking it’s certainly worthy of a visit. Rated 7

The layout of this pleasant town pub is as described by others, below, though the colour scheme is now pale green paint and plenty of bare wood. The staff were really pleasant, and the atmosphere was relaxing despite the mildly irritating and wholly unnecessary background music. The beer was in excellent condition – as a St Austell house the choice was limited to Tribute, Trelawny and Proper Job, but it was all most enjoyable. I’m very happy to come back here, and I’d include in a crawl, it’s just a shame that opening hours are quite limited during the week.

A pleasant enough and traditional looking pub split over two levels, it’s worth making the short stroll from the city centre to check this out.

Decor wise it’s a bit of a cross between traditional and contemporary with predominantly pale blue paintwork on the walls and deeper blue on the timberwork. As far as I recall from my last visit, there was quite a bit of exposed stonework which I thought added a bit of character, but that is now quite limited with only one or two small sections of exposed walling left. Flooring is dark blue/grey painted boards whilst seating was mostly old wooden church chairs that had been repainted in a vibrant shade of red. A small tiled fire-place was off to one side, although this did not appear to be in use. We didn’t inspect the menu, but did spot a few mince pies on the end of the bar, which seemed an odd choice for mid-January.

Beers on tap were Enigma and Nova from Bristol Beer Factory, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Electric Beer Persuasion. It looked as though there may have been a few more keg options dispensed from taps on the wall behind the bar, although I did not note these. Ciders were well represented with Ashton Press, Honey’s Midford and Golden Pheasant.

A gem of a pub and one of our favourite on our crawl around Bath. I found this pub to be very smart and trendy and also thought the young bar staff behind the bar to be friendly and their service quick and attentive. The interior of the pub consists of a couple of rooms, with the main bar in the front room which was curved in shape with a solid oak counter. The walls were painted in a light grey colour with a darker grey woodwork and floor boarded throughout.
Eight handpumps, with seven in use on our visit, five of which were ales and two ciders. We went for the Electric Bear Persuasion and Bristol Beer Works Nova, both were excellent. They also had a choice of ten craft ales on tap, served from behind the bar, along the back wall.

Refurbished in 2009 as a comtemporary bar, the Griffin probably hs too much of a pine and chrome feel for my more traditionalist tastes but that doesn’t necessarily mean it should be overlooked for a visit.

The interior has 2 rooms, the main bar with a fairly minimal feel with bare floors and plain walls, not unattractive but more of an acquired taste. To the rear up a couple of steps is a separate large room labeled the “BeaufortBar” with some solid looking walls and the pub name prominently displayed in large gold letters. There is a TV and a selection of board games available. One interesting feature is the secure high walled “secret garden” that can be found in the corner of the main bar (but don’t tell anyone I told you) although space is somewhat limited.

The 4 hand pumps dispensed a good selection of ales with local micro’s to the fore including Bristol Beer Factory Acer, Cotswold Spring Codrington Codger, Butcombe Bitter and a 4th I couldn’t make out. We certainly no complaints about the service since we entered the pub on a Sunday lunchtime not realizing it was actually closed until 2pm but they were happy to serve us anyway.

It may be a little too modern for some but I would certainly recommend it for a couple of pints if passing although I wouldn’t mark it out as an essential stop off.

This is a pretty basic open plan bar with a further larger area to the rear up 4 steps. It’s very clean and tidy both inside and out and has obviously been done up quite recently. 5 handpumps serving Butcombe bitter, London Pride, Kingstone Gold and Wickwar Cotswold Way. They also had a 5th beer which I tried first, it was total sludge, so I can’t even remember what it was supposed to be. It was changed with an apology and I had a Kingstone instead which was very nice. It was very quiet when we went in mid afternoon on a Wednesday, but it was very pleasant.
