E TA left this review about Toby Carvery Hilsea

A modern timber-framed barn-like structure dating from the 1990s with a central brick chimney, previously called The Green Farm after the farm that used to be here. There is a large car park at the side and a small, tidy paved garden area only really useful for smoking. The interior is high-ceilinged and has a lot of cobwebbed structural timbers on display, failing to give that authentic rustic feel. The young staff were pleasant, the clientele were fairly civilised and the food was as good as could be expected given the quality of the ingredients, well cooked and well presented. There was annoying muzak, gaming machines and mute TV screens to distract us. Ales on were Tribute and Doombar, both in OK condition. It is good at being what it is.

Typical family dining establishment in a pseudo-medieval barn with Travelodge next door. I suppose there are worse places to drink at and it fulfils a need. Draught ales were Doom Bar, London Pride and St Austell Tribute but the condition was questionable, despite Cask Marque accreditation.

Stayed here at the Inn keepers Lodge next door during May and agree with everything Micheal Wright has written. The Carvery was plentiful. From 5pm it filled up quickly to catch the cheaper price. After the rush had gone it was a nice place for a relaxing drink. Pleasant staff

Although a chain pub it is pleasant & good value, given it's location, near industrial estate & Lidl supermarket I suspect weekday lunchtime is busy

Limited choice of real ales, but let's not be snobbish, most visitors will drink lager or coffee so are they worried?

Booze from £2.15 to around £3, average £2.50 a pint

I opted for ploughman's lunch + pint special at 5.45, which I considered good value and very ample, if chain oriented.

I have seen ploughman's pricier & worse then add pint at £3 plus

Carvery looked nice, bar area is faux 16th century barn, but cavernous, clean and comfortable

Staff polite & prompt

Prejudices apart, a nice place, I would revisit

Not for real ale Morris dancers, more for diners I rec
