The Harvester is a traditional, family run, village pub.
It's been known for reasonable, home cooked food and good beer for many years.
The trouble is that it's so traditional that it feels like pubs used to 20 or 30 years ago and really could do with a freshening up of the decor and offer.
The menu is unexceptional pub grub but at gastro prices and whilst the steaks have a good reputation, deservedly so if they're still as good as mine was some years ago, around £14 for a chicken kiev feels a touch punchy.
There are usually 3 beers on: Hooky Bitter as a regular and two guests which were a somewhat drab Goddards Fuggle Dee Dum and Brew Company Yellow Rose on our visit. The Harvester has long been a prime mover in the Long Itchington beer festival held on May bank holiday when all the pubs offer an extended range. It's worth visiting the village for this and I'd head to The Harvester first.
A solid boozer for ale, the best in the village.

Unlike Mr Andrews,I actually went into this pub which has been in the GBG for over 25 years,and is well known for it's home cooked pub grub.Less than 15 minutes walk from the Grand Union Canal,it's close to the other three pubs in the village.The initial impression given by the upvc front door and windows isn't great and the liberal use of artex wall covering to the interior gives a very dated feel.The wooden fronted bar is also a cast back to an earlier age,while the side restaurant seems more functional than attractive.The rest of the bar area comprises a dog leg with some more dining tables ,in case you didn't want to dine alone in the restaurant.At the side there is a table stacked high with home made chutneys and pickles for sale along with bottles of "mystery" wines.There is also a side section at the front of the pub through an arch by the bar with high tables and fairy lights although the serving counter here was cluttered with boxes of cider and the area seemed unloved.
The three handpumps will always feature one from Hook Norton (Hooky on our trip)while the two rotating guests were Goddards Fuggle Dee Dum (tired) and an acceptable Brew Company Yellow Rose.Liefmans Fruitesse was also available and some interesting keg selections were on offer.
Steaks are a speciality on the food front but pricing what looked like pub staples in line with the steak dishes seemed rather steep and we declined the opportunity to eat here.A better real ale selection may have swung that decision around.The pub seems stuck in a time warp,it's a decent village boozer but could benefit from a small upgrade and some TLC.

been a few times looks ok from the outside, often hard to see the customers from outside as there are 3 rooms. a true free house with great beer been in the GBG for over 20 years. have eaten the food and its great cheep in the bar, more in the restraunt bit but it is value for money. and the best steak you will ever eat. well worth the effort from the canal dont be put off by it not being busy

The Harvester Inn
This pub is highly recommended in Good beer Guide and several canal guides. We were very disappointed, it was serving Hook Norton and guest ales, but the food menu was more a restaurant and very expensive. So we gave the pub a miss, partly due to there being nobody in it, not a good sign! (an hour later we walked past again and only a handful of people in the bar compared to the other pubs in the village that were very busy).
This is about 27 minutes walk from the canal at bridge 25.
