This JDW is set in what looks a fairly modern building which according to the CAMRA branch has been a garage, a carpet shop and a convenience store. Inside it's a rectangular open plan room with fairly typical fixtures and fittings. There is a paved patio at the front. It was quite busy just before midday on my Saturday visit.
The bar has two sets of five hand pumps which had one available soon, the JDW Trio Of Doom with Abbot and Doom Bore doubled, Nottingham Supreme Bitter & Top Tipple (House Beer), Dukeries Ard As N'ales and Hobgoblin. I went for the Ard As N'ales which was in very good nick.
I thought this was a good JDW.

Very busy wetherspoons part of the trio of pubs on the main Mapperly top shopping street. This is one of the most vibrant spoons I have been inside and attracts a younger crowd that makes for a nice change and adds a more social feel to the pub, especially on weekends and bank holidays when it gets very busy.
The usual spoons beers are present with many guests, on my last visit Old Hooky was available and quite nice (for spoons standards) at £2.09 a pint. This is worth a visit and has a really nice central open fire for the colder months, one of the few Weatherspoon’s that gets an ok review from me.

Quite a good Spoons this one and glad we popped in. This is a large one room pub all on the same level and that includes the loos, so you didn't have to encounter a pile of stairs. The only downside on our visit was that the place was super heated and it was so hot it was slighty uncomfortable. On the beer front, I went for the Moorhouses Amber Rambler and Notts Brewery Top Tipple, which were spot on.

The Woodthorpe Top is a fairly new addition to the mapperley drinking scene and it is next door to the Plainsman.
Once inside the pub has one fairly large oblong shaped room with the bar running down the right side, the seating is in the usuall Spoons stye with tall tables and chairs near the bar, leather settes in the middle of the room and normal tables and chairs on the left side, there was a nice looking gas fire which looked like a real fire in the middle of the room nearer the front.
There were two banks of five pumps with the regular Spoons beers doubled up,i had a drink of Nottingham Top Tipple which was a very nice drink, the other beers that i noted were Milestone Cromwell bitter,Butcombe Christmas jester,Brakspear bitter,Hobgoblin,GK Abbot and Ruddles County.
The pub was fairly quiet on my mid Tuesday afternoon vist and i found this to be a fairly nice Spoons to have a drink in.
