This would seem to be a Victorian pub, not quite backstreet, but certainly off the main drag, a place you’d find only by accident, not helped by it looking closed until virtually at the door. It’s also the drab pub exterior – but certainly not interior – which, mocked up as the White Horse, featured in the film Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel; indeed, the pub’s Facebook page describes it as ‘…an ideal filming location’, though clearly the outside only then.
Essentially there are three rooms, opened-out, with a central bar. The interior is very dated, probably benefitting from little more than the occasional lick of paint since the ‘70s, then a patterned carpet, a little bare brick and Artex ceiling. The front room features a pool table, then some child’s toys, including a miniature Range Rover go-cart or similar. Despite being a backpackers’ pub, none were in evidence on my Friday night visit, they probably having gone in search of the bright lights of central Acton’s more vibrant pubs. Indeed, this pub was dead, apart from an elderly, friendly but very sweary couple, along with a welcoming Scottish Frankie Boyle doppelgänger barman, serving me a Foster’s at just £1.70 a half (cash only), chosen for lack of cask.
Barman aside, this isn’t a great pub sadly; I don’t see how it can survive, but I wish it well.

Awesome in its simplicity. A cosy pub for a good yarn or a game of pool with your mates. The backpackers has all the basics for a very cheap price.
