Sports bar a few mins walk from the station. Little appears to have changed in the 13 or so years since the previous review. Sports memorabilia saturate the walls, some of which I am sure occupy the same places as at the time of. Steve’s review. The light wood traditional bar occupies the right corner in the front part of the pub, with a walkthrough to the gloomier back part of the pub.

There were 4 hand pumps, two operational at the time of my visit. The omnipresent Harvey’s Sussex Best and my chosen quaff of Hophead. Several typical keg options available also. Dispensed by a very pleasant barman.

Amazingly all the screens around the top of the walls of the venue were switched off rather than showing historic action or even Sky Sports news etc. instead a decent soundtrack filled the pub albeit it was turned up a bit too loud for my liking given the venue was punter quiet on my visit.

The Crown sports bar looks like a place to avoid from the outside as the windows are covered in crude multicoloured hand painted signs advertising upcoming sports and drink promotions and to be honest the welcome mat wasn’t exactly rolled out when I walked in. Like any other self respecting sports bar the walls are covered in football memorabilia and it was good to see a dartboard in the corner. As one would expect there are multiple plasma screens for showing all sports, but I was surprised to see three hand pumps on the bar that were drawing Harveys Best, Ordinary and Hophead. The Guinness was very good and other draught products were also available.

I would drink in here on a Saturday afternoon whilst the watching Gillette Soccer Saturday etc, but this wouldn’t be a place of choice for a night out and I’d definitely avoid on Sunday evenings as I cannot stand karaoke.
