I'd forgotten about this pub, and only found it by accident when wandering the streets of Beverley with time to kill before my train into Hull. A hanging sign spotted across the dual carriageway had me heading there quite quickly, and the fact that it's a bit nearer to the station than the pubs in the town centre decided me to step in a for a beer. For a midweek afternoon this pub was quite busy, with a crowd of maybe 20 locals and a lively atmosphere of people talking to each other. The pub is quite smart, inside and out, with interior walls alternately bare brick or grey painted wood panelling. On the longish bar I could only see one hand pump, with Great Newsome Pricky Back Otchan, a pale ale with quite a nice bitter finish, named after a Yorkshire word for a hedgehog. It was in very good condition. Worth a visit.

Open plan locals pub so just the one beer on the two pumps but the quality is fine. Lots of Draught Bass adverts on the counter front but just a nice Gt Newsome beer on sale. Given the pub type I asked the stoney faced guv if anyone else had had any and he said yeah so I had a pint while waiting for the train. Couple of big screens, proper pub decor and furnishings, unnecessary exposed bricks and a Romanesque plaque look a wee bit out of place but the locals probably won't notice or care. Probably the closest pub to the railway station so handy for waiting for the next half hourly train.
