A surprisingly large place, which was a Cafe Rouge for a long time and is now a fairly swish modern pub restaurant rather more upmarket than most places nearby. There is a bar area to the front, a large dining area ina glazed extension to the rear, a side "parlour" room and yet another room upstairs. All in a tasteful modern style, pretty lacking in atmosphere. From the the two handpumps we chose Rebellion Roasted Nuts, which quickly spluttered out, so declining the offer of waiting for a new barrel from the barman mentioned in an earlier review we settled for the alternative London Pride, which was about as good as might be expected if pricey.

Big changes here since my last visit. Some good money has been spent resulting a dividing-up of the interior I don't recall being there before, as well as a light and airy rear extension. The servery is attractive, with an arched bar back. Very much aimed at the moneyed local crowd and to be fair it's succeeding. Selection of papers, which I always like. Three cask which seemed ambitious - Pride plus two local beers. Inevitably I went for a half of the latter (Windsor & Eton Knot) which wasn't the best, a bit stale (NBSS 1.5) and served in a goblet glass by a friendly gay barman who went well above the half pint line. The venue is actually rather good but the cask quality killed a chunk of my initial positivity - get that right and they might just have a winning formula. 5.5

Refurbed in red and wood, renamed Cafe Rouge - which as the name implies, is a food-led cafe bar. A few bottles of beer are available and there's a fairly extensive wine list. Still no real ale though and unlikely to appear either, given the chain's policy. A shame as this looks like a nice place to drink it. Unrated.

A really nice interior, very spacious and well crafted with comfy seating, good for a bland after-work drink because it won't offend anybody and you can fit plenty of people in. There is no cask ale, just two naff Marstons nitros, so no good for the cultured. C'mon guys, you've got loads of taps, just one ale ain't asking too much is it? The prices are stupid too - £3 for two half pint lemonades from the syrup tap?!? Get real. Much better pubs very close if you're with real drinkers. Rating 4
