A pleasant and friendly village inn close to Croft motor sport circuit and just off the A167 Darlington to Northallerton road, once upon a time the Great North Road. An L shaped lounge like bar with glass screens dividing the L and the front section from a more formal dining area at the right hand end of the pub. The rear section is more a public bar type with the dart board and photos of village and pub life. Furnishings in both bars are traditional brown with bench seats and a mix of chairs and tables, decoration on the white walls being the photos mentioned plus some pictures and an interesting auction notice of 1931 when the pub, then called the Crown and Anchor Inn was sold for £1380. Otherwise traditional pub stuff like brassware, beer related nicnacks and books. There are three hand pumps on each of the counter faces, Jennings Cumberland plus others from Marstons, Banks's Original and a Marstons seasonal on my last visit. Needless to say for a GBG pub in excellent condition.
