Possibly the busiest pub I've been to since they re-opened on July 4th. The hottest day of the year had drawn dozens out into the garden area, plus another area adjacent to the car park.

We managed to get a table near the entrance to the pub. But with table service only, it was a long wait for service.

I did managed to peak into the bar to work out what was being dispensed. Black Sheep Best Bitter is the regular ale. Guests were Ulverston Celebration Ale, Cumbrian Legendary Ales Loweswater Gold & Woodforde's Simcoe.

Has a nice location, as previous reviewers have said. I didn't get chance to see much of the interior.

In a lovely location, below the church and just outside the town centre, this has the feel of a country pub. Unfortunately its appearance is spoilt by the ugly green umbrellas that protect overflow diners and drinkers from the potential downside of Cumbrian weather. I was fortunate in being here soon after opening time, which is 10am (I took the precaution of phoning ahead, but there were two other people having a - non-alcoholic - breakfast when I arrived). I had what is probably my earliest ever pint of Black Sheep Bitter, which was in good condition. There were five other beers on the bar, all pale or golden - I would have appreciated a bit more choice, but if this is what works for them, who am I to argue? I would definitely include this one if doing any future coastal railway pub crawl.

a very old pub with some original features, down a steep hill from the town centre. far more of a destination village pub feel, with most here for food on a warm Saturday afternoon. probably the best pub in Dalton.

The Brown Cow is on the southern edge of Dalton in Furness and it is fairly close to open countryside.
The Pub looks quite nice from the outside and once inside there were a couple of different rooms and these were fairly comfortable.
When we went in this pub it was a Matthew Brown tied house and there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Matthew Brown bitter and this was a fairly decent drink the other beer was Matthew Brown mild.
This was quite a nice pub and was worth the walk.
