A super brew pub by the station. Two floors (ground and cellar) with the action being on the ground floor. Traditional decor (exposed brick, quarter length dark wood panelling, wood fire, black beams) with five of their beers on. Genuinely friendly service with the locals known by name and order. For the record, I went through all the cask and got GBG quality (for it is listed in The Book) all the way through; Rail (NBSS 4), Silver Bullet (4.5), Piston (4), Iron Horse (3) and Sleeper Heavy (3.5). It’s a cracking pub that’s an absolute must-visit. 9.5

One of the original brepubs in the UK, we have been visiting this pub for some years either by bus and bit of a work fom the main road or by train which is opposite the pub. This was our first visit or a few years nd the pub was busy with people popping in for a pint or two on a Sunday Afternoon. Their own brewery ale is as good as ever with the sleeper Heavy being a very nice ale. We have eaten in here before but it looks that you need to reserve ahead these days plus it's not your normal pub grub. Looking forward to visiting again by train now that there seems to be more trains stopping at this request stop station.

Visited on a bank holiday monday a while back. The place was disorganised on arrival, with some people being told last orders for food had been taken and others arrriving afterwards being allowed to order. The landlady was having a shouting match with a poor lady who was being charged for what she hadn't had, this even admitted by the landlady. And very unprofessionally indeed the landlady was trying to canvass "support" for her rudeness from the customers at the bar (us)!!!! When the dust settled the food we had was very good, however I felt the ale was very "new" and not very well conditioned.

Those in my company often visit but I wouldn't go to the trouble in a hurry again.
